Synopsis

David was a shepherd boy, the youngest of Jesse's eight sons. While his brothers marched off to war with King Saul's army, David stayed in the fields tending the sheep and learning to trust in God with each new dawn. It was there, with a sling in his hand and a willing heart, that he began to prepare for a mission he never could have imagined.

The Philistine giant Goliath defied the army of Israel for forty days. The strongest soldiers trembled, but David - who was only bringing bread and cheese to his brothers - heard the mockery against the living God and knew he could not stay silent. With the courage born of faith, he offered to face the giant in the name of the whole nation.

Armed with five smooth stones and trust in the Lord of Hosts, David discovered that the size of the challenge is never greater than the size of God. His story teaches that, for God, no child is too small when they decide to trust - and no giant is too frightening when faith is in the right place.

In the OwLira book, David and Goliath is told in five illustrated chapters, with the owl mascot accompanying each teaching pause. The child discovers the key verse from Psalm 23, reflects on their own giants, and prays a short prayer at the end of each chapter.
