Synopsis

Gideon was the least of the least family of the smallest tribe in Israel — and he was the very one God called to lead. When the angel said "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior," Gideon looked around, thinking the message was meant for someone else. But God insisted: it is not by human strength that battles are won.

Gideon's army began with 32,000 men. God ordered it reduced to 10,000. Then to 300. Three hundred men against an immense army — with torches, jars, and trumpets. Not with swords. When the jars shattered and the torches blazed in the night, the enemy panicked and fled. The victory was so improbable that no one could doubt who had given it.

In the OwLira book, Gideon and the Small Army is told in five illustrated chapters, with the owl mascot accompanying each teaching pause. The child learns that God does not look for the strongest — he looks for the available.
